The bed is crafted from durable maple, select hardwood solids, and cherry veneers matched and hand-finished in a rich, warm cherry shade. Heavy distressing - including fly-specking, worm holes, and rasping - gives the piece a lived-in feel. Your own mattress fits right on top of an included set of wooden slats, so you won't need a box spring or bunkie board. Side rails can start in a low-lock position immediately after kids make their move into the bed. After they get used to the change, you can flip the rails up to a high-lock position, at which point you could also add the optional pull-out twin trundle or under-bed storage.

Slatted, mission-style detail crowns the coordinating headboard and footboard, finished with solid-paneled bases.
